The Canaanites were a group of people who descended from Canaan, the grandson of Noah. According to the Bible, Canaan was cursed by Noah because of his sin against him (Genesis 9:20-25). The Canaanites were known for their wickedness and idolatry (Genesis 15:16). They were also merchants and occupied the western Palestine’s valleys and coastal areas (Joshua 11:3) According to the Bible, the Israelites entered Canaan around 1407-1406 B.C.E. after 40 years of wandering in the wilderness after leaving Egypt.

According to the Bible (Deuteronomy 9:4) The Lord instructed the Israelites “You are not to leave even one person alive in the cities of these nations that the Lord your God is about to give you as an inheritance. You must completely destroy the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites….”

There are parts of the Bible that I believe have been tampered with over thousands of years. This is not the Lord I know. That said, history does indicate that the Canaanites came to a sad end – or most of them did. It is not a dead end however because advances in DNA have allowed us to go back and study the origins humans back to the Neanderthals and beyond. As Christians, I believe the Lord would look favorably on us finding the descendants of the Canaanites. Even with land in short supply in the Mid-East we may be able to create a homeland for them. This will take money and the Jewish people have shown us the way to raise the funds. Kars4Kids is a Jewish non-profit with a catchy tune and a cute mixture of kids that accepts cars, real estate, boats and what-have-you to support their cause. We can do likewise. We just need startup capital and you can help. We do also need to come up with a jingle and a diverse looking group of kids who can fake playing musical instruments.
