AN UNSOLICITED BUT ACCURATE COMMENT ON NATIVE AMERICAN HISTORY

@andykaufman

Let’s clarify something: the Sioux did NOT own the Black hills. They are not originally from there. Tribes control territory. Other tribes, like the Kiowa and the Crow were done wrong by the Sioux. The concept of ‘land ownership’ and ‘right to the land’ are in fact ‘white man concepts’ or rather European and Old World concepts, not part of the culture of the plains Indian cultures. To be sure, the Comanche had an empire where they did all manner of other tribes wrong, but this was a react to the Apache doing the Comanche wrong so the way of the Plains Indian was in fact ruthlessness and controlling territories, from anyone. Whereas, the ownership by the US was predicated on a concept called the Discovery Doctrine that the Pope helped establish so the Pope gave away the ‘right’ to claim land starting the ‘age of discovery’.

Once the American Revolution was successful then any land ‘owned’ by England reverted to US land, and the fact the land the Sioux were on was not due to this, but later Thomas Jefferson bought it from the French, but the French’s claim was based on the Discovery Doctrine and their ‘right’ to claim’. Indian tribes simply occupied the land, controlled territory, and never legally owned anything, and most of these tribes were not in fact originally from the particular areas they later would occupy. Though some were, and we don’t hear much about those tribes, but they do or did exist, and often the ones we do hear about are tribes that came along and did those earlier tribes wrong in what we hear little about: “Red on Red Crime”, like black on black crime, but it is so-called Native” American doing other Native American’s wrong and committing Crimes against them.

If you have never heard this term before you have full permission to use it, since it played a role in creating the ‘struggle’ that the Paleo-Asian American community would endure aka the “native” American aka the people whose real homeland is in the middle of Asia within Siberia. That is the real place their ancestors called home. Fun fact: the Russians also have a history of having many tribes they have a similar story to the US, thus forming a true historical parallel, but instead of going West, the Russians go East.
